Maths
Curriculum Aim
Our approach is to enhance children and young people’s (CYP's) enjoyment of Maths and to allow the opportunity to experience success in the subject. We aim to prepare CYP to have a secure foundation of all aspects of maths so that they have the confidence to be inquisitive, use reasoning and solve a range of maths problems. All CYP, irrespective of background, can and do succeed in Maths at Kingfisher Academy. Our aim is that all CYP can use their maths skills to be successful in everyday life and that they are prepared for the next stages of their educational journey.
Context
CYP will have one-to-one maths lessons at the bedside during their stay at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Our teachers will always aim to mirror teaching to that of the home school. Contact will be made with the home school to find out what maths topic they are currently working on, and our teachers will plan and teach lessons based on this. This approach will allow the CYP to have a smooth transition back to their maths lessons when returning to school.
Our teachers will encourage CYP to be resilient in their learning, by fostering positive relationships, alongside encouraging CYP to realise that making mistakes is part of the learning process. CYP will be supported to communicate mathematically and to develop skills to solve familiar and unfamiliar problems.
