Post-16 Studies

Curriculum Aim

Our Post-16 curriculum at the Becton Centre is designed to prepare young people aged 16–19 for their next steps in education, training, employment, and adult life. We aim to provide flexible, personalised pathways that recognise each student’s unique circumstances, interests, and ambitions. Whether continuing studies with a college or sixth form, beginning new courses through our Becton 12 programme, or combining both approaches, our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve meaningful qualifications, develop essential skills, and grow in confidence for the future.

Context

Students join our Post-16 provision at different points throughout the year and often with varied prior experiences of education. To meet these needs, our curriculum is deliberately flexible and personalised. Lessons and programmes are structured so that young people can access learning immediately, regardless of when they are admitted, and can build a pathway that reflects their current circumstances and future aspirations.

We plan with adaptability at the core:

  • Rolling entry means courses and activities are designed to be modular, allowing students to join or leave without losing continuity.
  • Personalised pathways ensure that each student can select from accredited and non-accredited options, with English and Maths embedded where needed.
  • Health-informed planning allows us to adjust pace, content, and delivery to suit students who may have fluctuating attendance or complex needs.
  • Ongoing review ensures that programmes remain relevant, with regular liaison between staff, external providers, and families.

This approach ensures that every student, regardless of admission point or health circumstances, can engage meaningfully with their studies and progress towards their next steps.
